| This was my first bedroom all to myself.
It was also the guest room when needed. I was so proud
of the grown-up look of it.  My Aunt Dorothy made multi-colored
organdy pom-poms to trim the tie-backs for the curtains,
and the draperies were a deep sky blue.  My Grandmother
called us all by pet names.  I was her "Blue-Eyed
                    Darling",
and I fancied my eyes the color of the drapes.  Here
she is reading to me from the red book of Children's Stories.
                     I
remember when she read about Androcles removing the thorn
from the lion's paw, how tenderly her fingers would pretend
to pluck it out.  And her mouth would purse up when
reading about the "exquisite pain" the lion was
feeling. The red desk has been my life-long companion, still in use,
but now decoupaged with family pictures.
