The lichen is the first thing that starts to grow
on lava.
Lichens are very sensitive to pollution.
Stainless steel plate and beach stones with lichen growing on them.

In case you are wondering how the stones are fastened:
I drilled a hole into the stones and also in the plate and put two screws and a plastic tube into the stones to stop them from sliding.
