SAVING IMAGE FILES IN SERIF PHOTOPLUS

To download a free copy of Serif PhotoPlus 5.5 for Windows:

After you download your Serif PhotoPlus, There will be a series of questions, be sure to set it up for WEB not for print AND YOU MUST REGISTAR within 30 days! or it will expire!
(they provide a phone number) When you call they will try to sell you the newer version,
It is up to you, BUT DO NOT BE PRESSURED! Just say no and you can keep using the free version.


1. Open PhotoPlus

2. Click on "Open Saved Work"

3.) Browse and click on the image you want to open. Finish.

4.) If the photo is the way you want it,
procede to the next step.
If not, see Adjusting Photographs in PhotoPlus.

5.) Under Image go to Image Size.
Change the size, in the Image Size Box.
Be sure maintain Aspect ratio box is checked.
Under Print Size adjust the size of your photo to a size you like.
a typical size maybe 7" by a resolution of 72 pixel.
You can also adjsut the quality on the bottom, somewhere at 3/4, 75% is typically good.

6.). TO SAVE YOUR IMAGE FOR THE WEB as a jpg,
Under File scroll to EXPORT OPTIMIZER
Your Image will appear on the right and options on the left.
On top of your image it will says how large the file is and how long the download time will be.
BE SURE IT IS UNDER 400 Kb.
as you adjust the quality bar you can see the image change, and the size size get lower
Lowering the quality even to 80-90% will make youimage size much smaller, so it will load much faster, and you can see the image quality does not suffer very much at 80-90% quality.
CLICK EXPORT TO SAVE.
BE SURE the top bar, SAVE IN says it will save in your art003 folder. THe PICTURE MUST BE SAVED IN YOUR art003 folder, not in a folder inside your art003 folder, but just right in the art folder the same place your art003.html files will be.
CHANGE FILE NAME to a name you will recognize .
The title should have NO spaces, NO symbols, NO dashes or anything but REGULAR LETTERS AND NUMBERS ONLY in the title.
USE only lowercase letter and numbers and no spaces or symbols.
such as: flower1.jpg
make sure it saves as type is a .jpg

BAD EXAMPLE: Flower w/bee .JPG
GOOD EXAMPLE: flowerbee.jpg

9.) The image should now be ready to insert into a webpage.

10.) When you are finished the file and go to close it,it will ask "Do you want to save the file?" SAY NO.
You have already saved a smaller version of the file in your "Art003" folder.
Always leave an orginial, large version of your images incase you want to use them or print a larger version in the future.
