I took 1 step but halted myself before Gallett called to me. She joined
me quickly as if afraid I would enter after all. "You shouldn't have let
her go in alone, Gallett."
"I
know." She smiled gently, "But we know Ince. And we do need to know what
is going on here. What has been going on for cycles and possibly ever since
the beginning. We've tried everything else. Every other method." She waited.
"Haven't we? Can you think of anything we haven't tried, except a rider?"
"No."
I felt like a sullen child.
"Then
we ought to. Ince is the best."
I stared
at the black gap. "How long will you give her?"
"As
long as she needs."
"Gallett---"
"I
can't say, Penn."
