"I have a com." She said it to ease me.
It
didn't. If what she was going into was unorthodox then it could very easily
disrupt the com. Unpartnered she could be overcome in numerous ways and
being a service med on board ships I was all too familiar with a large
number of these.
The
aide, a young woman with a closely shaved head and wearing the scarlet
uniform of the construction agent, darted past us with a smile calling
to Gallett as she went to her, "Lights and ventilation normal, governor,
temperature within range, and it is abandoned according to full sensor
sweep."
Ince
disregarded this. And with reason. She had heard that report countless
times, and it changed. Situations which required riders changed. Ince removed
herself from my grasp but her voice gentled knowing as she did what motivated
my persistence. "I need to see this. It will be all right."
"I
don't know what justification you can have for saying that," I snapped.
"You don't know anything about this situation."
"I
will discover it," she said turning and vanishing instantly into the darkness.
