Valley Road Waterwheel

Valley Road was the first road through Sawtooth Valley. It remains today as in the past --- a rough, meandering and quiet dirt road with mile after mile of wide-angle vistas of the valley floor against a backdrop of peaks with glacier-carved canyons. Today the road provides access to large cattle ranches. The ranches are irrigated by a century old system of canals and ditches. The waterwheels have been added recently to keep Salmon out of the canals, so that they can spawn in the streams and rivers.
