Decker Flats, across the Salmon River from Marilyn's house, drew me to paint many times. The river rushed by thunderously with the runoff from the heavy winter snows on the peaks. It was not always silent when I painted the Sawtooth Landscape. Just behind the trees was the waterwheel that I painted several times. It was a thing of man-made functionality that was, nevertheless, beautiful in its simplicity and harmonious with nature's wildness.
