The Marriage Paradigm
-
From a series of paintings inspired by
my marriage to the artist,
-
Masculine and Feminine Waters
A painting that can be viewed from
either side. The triangular form or vector pointing upward
represents what is called the "feminine waters", the movement
or aspiration from below to reach a spiritual height, such as in
prayer.
Turning the painting upside down
transforms it to the "masculine waters",
the vector of bringing spiritual energy into the mundane world.

Portrait of the Artist and his Wife
God created Man (Adam) in His Image. The Rabbis teach us that references
to Adam also include his wife,
thus God's complete image can only be
achieved when man and his wife are united.

The Marriage Dance
Dance is
an important element in the Jewish wedding
and symbol for the dynamics of the marriage relationship,
particularly when using the Hebrew word for
dance,
"m'chol", which also implies making a ring or circle.

Conception
Every child that
is conceived is a holy partnership of the father,
the mother and G-d, which brings a unique soul into the physical body
and transforms the animal sexual act into a gateway to transcendence.

The Mystery of the
Signet Ring
An
important idea from the Kabbalah is based on the mystery of the signet
ring
mentioned in the Song of Songs, whose obtruded or recessed image
creates an "opposite" impression on the sealing wax. This describes
the relationship of the "razu v'shuv",
the running and the return, a mystic paradigm for all social and
spiritual relationships.

Empathy
Empathy and acts of kindness are the keys to a real marriage,
which in Hebrew means also "to
carry and lift up". Marriage should be a
daily carrying and elevation and is truly achieved when both partners
have an expansive consciousness of being within G-d.
