YAEL AVI-YONAH was born in Jerusalem, a fine arts graduate of Bezalel
Academy of Art. Her father was the distinguished archaeologist and art
historian, Michael Avi-Yonah, who provided her with the rich background
in art, archeology and bible, which emanates from her works. She worked
for five years after graduation making reconstruction drawings
for most of the important archaeologists of Israel, including Yigal
Yadin, Nachman Avigad and Ruth Amiram.
Thousands of her prints and serigraphs on Jerusalem landscapes and
biblical subjects have been sold throughout the world. She has made
over 600 portraits of the highest quality, including her series of oil
portraits of 15 great contemporary Israeli authors, which was exhibited
at the Jerusalem International Book Fair in 1984 and abroad.
In 1987 she completed a commissioned series of paintings on the Twelve
Tribes for the Yad L’Mordechai synagogue in Jerusalem.
Since 1970, she has been working on a series of works in a new and
original style which she calls Anaglyphic Art.
Her themes include the Four Angels, The Four Worlds, Visions of
Jerusalem in the Messianic Age, the Mystery of the Black Hole and
Hologramic Energies. Her works can be viewed in various ways: at rest
or spinning on a axis, with or without special glasses that inputs to
right brain or left brain or as a hologram. Her works are on display in
the Jewish Museum in London, as well as galleries in Israel and abroad.
Until her demise in October 2012, she lived in Jerusalem with her
husband, the artist, Dov Lederberg.
