my running project for several years, a means of translating into form the
emotional impact of gargantuan and/or ingenius works of engineering.
Artist's Statement
The pieces in the "Articulations" suite share a common
philosophy: They are predicated on the belief that the universe is
knowable, that man is capable of and worthy of his own happiness
through efficacious productive work, and that individual men should
be left free to pursue their dreams and ambitions unhampered by
convention or force. Aesthetically I believe in ideals, and so each
painting I do is a link between my foundation of what has already been
discovered and the still abstract condition of artistic perfection.
My intention is to redesign and encapsulate aesthetically the
abstract realm linking thought with action, mind with body, and
existence with morality in a reality based, egoistic pursuit of man's
highest ideals. The subject matter (great accomplishments in
architecture and engineering) is essential to my theme. Ingenuity is
how man survives. His solutions to the problems that face him every
minute of his life give rise to his ethics, and create a world molded
to his values. Those values that enhance and perpetuate his life,
(leading ultimately to his highest spiritual state) are where one may
find true beauty. I explore the conduits to happiness through
the beauty of man's achievements done in his own name, and for the
purpose of his own life here on Earth.
This has been the focus of my work, and the common thread and
inspiration for the works represented here.
