Suite: Night/Dance in the Horizon

I. The Prelude

A woman standing alone

I was never a boy
in this vastness.
I was always the dancing girl
with slim ankles glancing the ground
in anger, entranced by the earth.

We always danced
in fields with
no relief against
the sky.  It
was the colour
of wheat in
his eyes that
fixed upon my
pretty ankles, like
chains-he cheated,
would not loose
me from the
fields.  I danced
on my feet,
on my back,
riding through the
grass with sunlight
clawing down my
spine.  My friend,
he swam through
bloody-brown waters to
get to me,
his dancing girl.
