FACULTY POSITION IN DANCE

The School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University invites
applications for a tenure track position, to be appointed at the Assistant
Professor rank in the Dance Area of the School, beginning September 1,
2000. The School for the Contemporary Arts is an interdisciplinary
department offering B.F.A.'s in Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual
Art, a B.A. in Art and Culture Studies and an interdisciplinary M.F.A.

The successful applicant will be an artist/scholar with a specialization in
dance creation and contemporary dance studies/history. The applicant will
be able to work across disciplinary boundaries and can contribute to studio
teaching in dance. Additional areas of specialization might include
technology, new media, interdisciplinary performance, performance studies,
or world dance. Applicants should hold a post-graduate degree and have a
strong record of artistic production and/or scholarly publication.

The dance program focuses on training in contemporary dance with courses in
technique, composition, dance history, somatic practices, dance/movement
analysis, improvisation, and interdisciplinary performance. Teaching
duties will be drawn from these areas and from appropriate
interdisciplinary courses in the School's undergraduate and graduate
programs. Maintaining a substantial artistic practice and/or scholarly
publication record is a requirement for tenure and promotion in the School
for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. Advising, committee
responsibilities and graduate supervision are expected.
