SCAN '94: The 14th Annual Symposium on Small Computers in the Arts
November 4th - 6th, 1994
The Franklin Institute Science Museum
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Sponsored by the Small Computers in the Arts Network,
Philadelphia, PA.
anarchy in the arts: the techno-revolution
The traditional bureaucracies of the art world are being challenged
by the decentralization of the tools of production, and the evolution of
artist-controlled distribution systems. Nearly everybody who buys a computer
gets a paint program free; some turn out to be artists although they
may not have been inclined to pick up a sketch pad or paints. Composers
of multi-instrumental music are now able to hear their work performed on
their own MIDI synthesizers, while artists of all kinds are establishing
virtual galleries on the Internet... could this be the beginning of
anarchy in the arts?

Information and Registration
The Franklin Institute will again host the SCAN Conference.
Explore one of the country's premier science museums with its observatory,
planetarium, 4 story Omnimax theater, Futures Center, and...STAR TREK.
Be a commander on the bridge of the Enterprise, and if warp speed gives
you nosebleeds, claim a cot in Sick Bay, it'll all be there.
Our show will be the grand opener for Philly's newest art gallery, and one
of the few in the region to showcase computer art. Located in Old City
Philadelphia, SILICON GALLERY will participate in First Friday, an
event in which all of the galleries in this "gallery row" open their shows
concurrently, creating an incredible neighborhood party!
